There are a couple of ways church approach compassion and outreach. One is to shine a flashlight that is broad and covers a wider area. While broad, that kind of light shining doesn’t have the impact we desire.

But here’s how we see it. If you take that same light and focus it down, it becomes a laser. Lasers are powerful and can cut through three inches of steel, burn off cancer or restore sight to 20/20 vision.

The Crossroads wants to take on a few projects and give them a laser focus. We’d like to see a deep impact of compassion in a few places rather than a shallow impact in many. It’s been said, “Increased focus equals increased impact.” We agree.

One Day Serve

It started December 12, 2010 as an incredible opportunity for us to reach out to others, right in the middle of Christmas, to make the statement that “It’s NOT about me!”

It became clear that One Day Serve is movement of people who are not content to sit around, but want to engage ourselves in meeting needs of others. We also believe the teaching of Jesus that instructs us to do so (Luke 10:30-37). We are putting action behind our belief. Everyone matters and as we serve others, that is when life can find meaning and purpose.

It’s our pleasure to help families, who may be overwhelmed with circumstances, single-parent homes who may need a little assistance, or may be homes wracked with long-term or terminal illness. We tackle various projects and do it all out of our love and gratitude for what Jesus has done for us. We don’t need an explanation WHY help is needed…we just help – no strings attached! Also, we serve out of a joy of serving, and encourage anyone who has this same heart to join our efforts. We may even send a team out to perform a random act of kindness around the Northwest Valley.

Lastly, if you have a neighbor, friend, or co-worker who lives in the New River to Norterra or Lake Pleasant to Desert Hills area… that may need a little help, hope and encouragement, please refer them to us. We are good at fixing things around the house, yard work, and general house maintenance. We’d be glad to do what we can to help.

Strike Force: With the magnitude of One Day Serve’s impact, we see the need to develop teams, who at a notice can quickly mobilize their efforts and strike their service in a more timely fashion. This serving arm of ODS, enlists people of many skill levels and proficiencies – but all need to have a heart of service and teamwork. Strike Force will be rolled out in the Fall of 2011.

Be a light to your neighbors and community in the Northwest Valley as we bring love and service to other … just because.
