All of us worship.
Whoever you are, whatever you believe, you worship all day long in more ways than you can count.
The question is, who or what are you worshiping?
At its core, worship is giving worth to something—finding something greater than ourselves and giving it our attention, time, and emotional investment. The Crossroads’ desire is to be a community of people who worship God with obedience and passion seven days a week wherever we are: at our workplace, in our homes, at a restaurant—everywhere.
Showing God that He is worthy and giving Him our worship can take many different expressions. It can be a quiet moment with Him alone, singing songs to Him with others, or giving to and helping those in need.
One of the ways The Crossroads worships God as a community is our weekend services. As we expectantly come together to seek God, He reveals Himself to us, and we can’t help but respond. Both individually and in community, we respond in a number of different ways, all in humble worship of the One we gather to celebrate.
These expressive responses include:
Singing
More than just music, songs of worship are prayers of thanks, awe, need, and devotion that prepare our hearts to be changed by God. They focus our hearts on Him and give words to our response to Him.
Teaching
It is not our job to try to reconfigure God so that He can be more palatable to an increasingly skeptical culture. It’s our job to teach the whole counsel of God’s Word with love and mercy — and then trust the Holy Spirit to drive His truth deeply into the hearts of those who listen. That’s why, at The Crossroads, the Bible is our textbook and the focus of our attention in public worship.
Giving
God has given us more than we can ever reciprocate. Giving is worship by releasing back to God what He has given us. Through giving, we acknowledge Gods sovereignty, provision, grace and generosity. Anyone is welcome to give.
Communion
Communion is worship through remembrance. It is specifically for those who have placed their faith in Jesus and asked Him to lead their lives, and is a response to one of Jesus’ last instructions to His disciples. By eating and drinking a small portion of bread and juice, we remember; Christ’s death that paid for our sins, His constant presence and love in our lives, and His promise to return. Communion elements are made available each weekend and we typically eat and drink these elements in unison as directed by a worship leader.
Prayer
Prayer is worshiping God through conversation with Him. Sometimes it’s God’s turn to speak, and our role to listen as He gives truth and direction. At other times He listens as we think through and respond to His truth. Sometimes we simply don’t know what or how to pray.
At any or all of these moments, our Pastors and iCare team are ready to pray with and for anyone who would like prayer. They’re available around the perimeter of the room or in the iCare Space either during or after each service. Prayer needs can also be submitted by writing them on the tear-off section of the weekly bulletin and dropping them in an offering bag.
Obedience
However God’s Spirit moves us to respond to Him, obedience is the worship He desires. This could be any of the above, or something else entirely: seeking reconciliation with someone we’ve wronged, using our bodies and posture to express our worship to God, taking a next step of faith like baptism or volunteering…simply obeying the response God stirs in our hearts.
All these ways to worship God can take place at any place or time. Our hope is that our services are a catalyst for living our worship for the rest of our week in these ways and more.
If you have ministry gifts and passions that could enhance the worship experience at The Crossroads, please contact our worship ministry. It is exciting to help others find a place in ministry.
