The Crossroads' Mission and Purpose

Our Mission and Purpose

Christ’s Church at The Crossroads exists to glorify God by growing a community of Christ followers who love God and each other. That says it all: Our church’s primary objective is bring God maximum glory. The Apostle Paul once said, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” {I Corinthians 10:31} Let there be no doubt: His glory is our calling. It is our ambition to live by faith, extend a message of hope and be known by our love.

And just how do we go about doing that?  We find out what matters most to God and then we make those things matter most to us, too. So what matters most to God?  An obvious place to start is with the Great Commission and the Great Commandments.

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
By definition, a disciple is one who follows – in this case, Christ.  The church’s marching orders are clear.  We are to focus our energies on “growing a community of Christ followers.

What is to be the nature of this community?  Jesus was once asked, “’Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the law?’  Jesus replied:  ’Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” {Matthew 22:36-39} So this community we grow is to be marked by loving God and one another.

Sometime later, the Apostle Paul wrote these words:  “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.”  {I Corinthians 13:13}.  Because that’s true, there is truly no nobler ambition than to seek to live by faith, extend a message of hope and be known by our incredible, unending love.
